The safety of everyone on campus is a top priority for the district and school administration. Please read below to better familiarize yourself with the safety measures in place at Turtle Rock.
The Raptor Visitor Registration System
Every visitor to Turtle Rock must check-in through the front office. The first time a visitor checks-in, they must present appropriate identification that can be entered into our Raptor system. The identification will be checked against a data base that will let us know that they are clear to be on campus. A Visitor Sticker will be issued and must be worn by the visitor the entire duration of the visit. On all subsequent visits, the visitor must sign-in to be issued a sticker. If you are not wearing a sticker, you will be asked to return to the front office to sign-in to the Raptor System.
Staff Identification Badges
All Irvine Unified School District staff will be wearing district identification. All staff have been cleared through national databases to work on our campuses.
Surveillance and IUSD Campus Security
Smile! You are on camera at Turtle Rock. The Irvine Unified School District Security Department maintains cameras at all of our sites. The Security Department also regularly patrols our school, trains our staff in safety techniques, and acts as a liaison with the Irvine Police Department.
Safety Drills
Everyone at Turtle Rock participates in regular earthquake, fire, and stranger on campus drills. Each fall, we join schools across the state in a disaster drill called "The Great California Shake Out". Look for more information to come home prior to The California Shake Out and our stranger on campus drills.
How to help prepare your child to be safe at school
- Please make sure that your contact information is up-to-date. When you change email addresses, telephone numbers, or residence addresses, please make sure that you inform our office. You will receive electronic and/or voice messages during emergencies from school or district personnel to update you on student pick-up information.
- Please let us know if your Additional Emergency Contacts change email addresses, telephone numbers or residence addresses. It is very important that at least one of the Contacts listed for your child can communicate fluently in English.
- Teach your child his/her first and last name, your phone number, and his/her residence address.
- Tell your child that you expect him/her to always listen to his teachers and other trusted adults during safety drills and/or emergencies. Our entire staff is highly trained by the Irvine Police Department and our Campus Security Department to keep children and adults safe during emergencies.
If you see something unusual, say something!
If you are aware of an unsafe or unusual situation in your neighborhood, please report it to the Irvine Police Department, and/or UCI Campus Security. If you believe that the unusual incident or situation may affect the school, please do not hesitate to contact our front office staff.
